Conference “Research on influenza A virus subtype H5N1 in Vietnam and Thailand: molecular epidemics, diagnosis and vaccinate prevention”

28/10/2010
In the morning of July 9th 2010, at the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology, a conference on tasks of Vietnam-Thailand protocol was held under the theme “Research on influenza A virus subtype H5N1 in Vietnam and Thailand: molecular epidemics, diagnosis and vaccinate prevention”.

The conference drew the participation of leaders from the Institute of Biotechnology (IBT); representatives from the Finance and Planning Department under the Vietnam Academy of Sciences and Technology, and the Thailand National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (BIOTEC); researchers from the Institute of Biotechnology, the National Institute of Animal Health, the Central Center for Animal Health Inspection, the Institute of Military Health 103, the University of Agriculture and Forestry, Ho Chi Minh-based Hospital 7A, and the Thailand National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology.

At the conference, scientists made reports about research methodologies and results of the protocol’s tasks implemented by Vietnamese and Thai scientists. This was an opportunity for scientists to share experiences in researches, present obtained results, propose specific cooperation policies to promote the work’s progress of the two sides, expand and strengthen the international cooperation relationship between Vietnamese and Thai scientists in the near future.

The Tasks of the Vietnam-Thailand Protocol was carried out from 2008 to 2010. It was presided over by the Vietnam’s Institute of Biotechnology and coordinated with the Thailand National Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology. So far, it has obtained positive results on molecular epidemics of the influenza A virus subtype H5N, diagnosis and vaccine.

Now, the protocol is in the final stage, including the inspection of making the vaccinate virus immune. This work is scheduled to be implemented in three months.

Research on the influenza A virus subtype H5N is a cooperative task of the protocol between the two countries and between IBT and BIOTEC. In addition, the two sides initially discussed orientations for continued cooperation on scientific fields which are paid attention to by the two sides.
