Conference on “Promoting Basic Research, Mastering Several Strategic Technologies and Enhancing the Capacity of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology”

On the morning of April 17, 2026, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) organized the Conference on “Promoting Basic Research, Mastering Several Strategic Technologies and Enhancing the Capacity of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.” The conference was chaired by Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai – Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission, Secretary of the Party Committee, and President of VAST.

Overview of the conference

Attending the conference were Vice Presidents of VAST, including Prof. Dr. Tran Tuan Anh and Prof. Dr. Chu Hoang Ha; representatives of the Standing Board of the Party Committee, leaders of units under VAST, and representatives of several central agencies.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai, President of VAST, emphasized that the conference served as an occasion to bring together generations of leaders and scientists to discuss the development orientation of VAST in the new period. The event was considered an important step toward promoting restructuring and enhancing the capacity of VAST, with the aim of becoming a core national center for science and technology.

The conference focused on three main topics: promoting basic research and mastering several strategic technologies; proposing objectives and solutions to strengthen the capacity of VAST; and developing a project for the establishment of the Council of Academicians.

Scientists at the conference exchanged views on orientations and solutions for developing basic research in association with technological applications, while emphasizing the necessity of establishing flexible mechanisms and policies to promote innovation and improve the effectiveness of scientific activities.

In addition, thematic presentations at the conference focused on solutions to promote basic research, strengthen the organizational capacity of VAST, and propose the establishment of the Council of Academicians in order to enhance VAST’s role in scientific consultancy and strategic development.
