On the afternoon of 23 June 2026, Comrade Nguyen Thanh Nghi, Member of the Politburo, Secretary of the Party Central Committee, Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission, together with a working delegation, visited and worked with Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) on the implementation of VAST's key tasks over the recent period; and discussed the orientation and tasks for the period ahead, in the context of VAST transitioning to operate under new functions and duties as a public service unit of the Party Central Committee.

Attending the working session were Comrade Nguyen Kim Son, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission; Comrade Do Viet Ha, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of the Central Party Agencies; representatives of the leadership of the departments and units under the Central Policy and Strategy Commission; along with representatives of the leadership of central commissions, ministries and sectors. On the side of VAST were Comrade Tran Hong Thai, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Commission, Secretary of the Party Committee and President of VAST; comrades of the Standing Committee of the Party Committee, the Vice Presidents of VAST, and representatives of the leadership of affiliated units.

At the working session, Comrade Tran Hong Thai presented the results of VAST's work in the 2021–2026 period and the status of implementation of the schemes assigned by the Politburo and the Secretariat. Over the recent period, VAST has synchronously implemented many schemes, projects and key tasks; proactively taken part in effectively resolving the country's urgent issues, creating momentum for socio-economic development, ensuring national defense and security, and protecting the environment sustainably. The period from 2021 to the present has been an important pivotal stage of strategic significance, laying a solid foundation for VAST's development. VAST has performed well its role of advising the Party and State on policy and has contributed directly to economic development through scientific products of high applied value, helping to raise Vietnam's innovation index on the world map. To excellently accomplish the political tasks assigned to it, VAST has proactively submitted important recommendations to the Central Strategic Steering Committee and discussed the difficulties and bottlenecks that need to be resolved.

Speaking at the working session, Comrade Nguyen Thanh Nghi affirmed that VAST has made many important contributions to the country's cause of developing science, technology and innovation; that it has firmly maintained its position as the nation's leading natural science and technology research agency, bringing together a contingent of highly qualified scientific intellectuals; and he acknowledged and highly valued the results VAST has achieved over the recent period, especially since transitioning to the new operating model as a public service unit directly under the Party Central Committee. After comprehensively assessing the results achieved, Comrade Nguyen Thanh Nghi expressed his agreement with and support for the groups of tasks and solutions put forward by VAST, while emphasizing a number of key orientations and tasks that Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology need to focus on carrying out in the new period.
