Ceremony to open Master"s degree program and recognize PhD students (July 2018) at Graduate University of Science and Technology
The event drew the participation of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Van Kiem, vice president of VAST; leaders of institutes under VAST, faculties, lecturers and students from the Academy of Science and Technology.

Speaking at the event, Prof.Dr. Phan Ngoc Minh, vice president of VAST and director of the Academy of Science and Technology, congratulated 104 graduates and 11 PhD students, who have successfully passed the entrance examination. He also congratulated 39 new doctors who completed the training programme and successfully defended the dissertation.

"It can be said that the Academy of Science and Technology is the ideal learning and research environment, thanks to the close cooperation in training and scientific research, and the best facilitation of the academy for scientific research units to perform the training. Therefore, the quality of training is improved, the procedures are done quickly and timely,” said newly-recognized doctor SengthongBounyavong - a lecturer from the National University of Laos, who studied at the Department of Physics, Academy of Science and Technology at the ceremony.

At the ceremony, VAST announced a list of ten chairmen of scientific research in 2018 under the post-doc programme of the academy. The programme aims to improve research capacity of doctors; attract scientists with doctoral degrees to work at units under the academy; provide opportunities for young scientists to form a research group and access the organization of scientific research.
Speaking at the ceremony, Dr. Nguyen Thi Cuc, a chairwoman of one of ten projects said that, the programme has great significance to young scientists who are taking their first steps on their road of scientific research. Thanks to this program, young scientists have more opportunities to improve their knowledge and ability to work independently and accumulate more working experience. She also wishes that the Graduate University of Science and Technology in particular and VAST will have more scientific programmes to create opportunities for young researchers to have more opportunities for self-training and devoting themselves to science.

In 2017, lecturers and students from the Graduate University of Science and Technology announced 206 scientific works, including 107 articles which meet ISI/SCOPUS international standards. At the ceremony, the university honoured two lectures who had more then ten ISI international publications in 2017; one student and one lecture whose ISI has the highest impact factor at the university in the year. Representing individuals with outstanding achievements in the publication of science in 2017, Dr. Nguyen XuanCuong, researcher from the Institute of Marine Chemistry and lecturer of the Faculty of Chemistry of the university, expressed the honour of receiving the certificate of merit and encouragement of the university. He said that the programme supporting expense scientific publications and intellectual property certificates at the university started in 2017. It was a significant and practical programme to recognize achievements of graduate students as well as lecturers and scientists in carrying scientific research at the university. He hoped that the programme will continue in the future and more publications will be made, contributing to improving the position in the field of training and research of the university in particular and VAST in general.

There are more than 800 PhD and 300 MA students at the university. With a unique and advanced model in combination with postgraduate training and research activities at the leading institutes under VAST; highly qualified lecturers, including 60 professors, 230 associate professors and over 800 doctors; a network of laboratories, online libraries, scientific journals and international cooperation in VAST, the university is an ideal postgraduate training establishment, in combination with scientific research in the field of natural sciences and technology.
