On 13 July 2026, in Hanoi, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST) solemnly held a ceremony to present its Commemorative Medal to H.E. Mr. Olivier Brochet, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the French Republic to Viet Nam. The occasion served to honour and recognise Ambassador Olivier Brochet's great contributions to promoting research cooperation and the training of high-quality scientific human resources, thereby contributing to the development of VAST.

At the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Quy Quynh, Head of the Department of Personnel Organisation and Inspection, announced Decision 1050-QD/VHLKHCNVN dated 13 July 2026 of the President of VAST on awarding the Commemorative Medal to Ambassador Olivier Brochet.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai extended his warmest congratulations to Ambassador Olivier Brochet and the people of France on the eve of the National Day of the French Republic (14 July). The President of VAST emphasised that France is a long-standing and trusted scientific partner holding a particularly important position in VAST's international cooperation strategy. Prof. Dr. Tran Hong Thai stressed that, thanks to Ambassador Olivier Brochet's strong attention and support during his tenure, cooperation between the two sides has developed comprehensively, expanding from traditional fields into new strategic technologies. Many major projects have delivered tangible results, such as: VNRedSat-1, Viet Nam's first Earth observation satellite, implemented with the participation of Airbus; marine survey projects using the research vessel ANTEA in coordination with the French National Research Institute for Sustainable Development (IRD); research on green and clean energy with the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission (CEA); and, in particular, the remarkable development of the University of Science and Technology of Hanoi (USTH - the Vietnam-France University), whose dual-degree training model has established a prestigious brand in the region.

Deeply moved to receive this honour, Ambassador Olivier Brochet expressed his pride and sincere gratitude to VAST's leadership and all of its scientists. The Ambassador affirmed that France will always accompany VAST, share knowledge and connect resources to support the Academy in its new phase of development. Looking ahead, the Ambassador expressed his hope that the France-Viet Nam comprehensive strategic partnership in science, technology, training and innovation will continue to be strongly elevated through practical action programmes, delivering mutual benefits and paving the way for the younger generations of both countries to go further together.
