Celebrating 35th anniversary of Kovalevskaia Award and 2020 Kovalevskaia Award

The Kovalevskaia Award 2020 was presented to the female collective of the Institute of Natural Products Chemistry under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Thanh Huong, senior lecturer in cardiology, Hanoi Medical University (Ministry of Health), for outstanding achievements in scientific research.

On March 5, 2021, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology collaborated with the Vietnam Women's Union to hold a ceremony to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Kovalevskaia Award and grant the Kovalevskaia Award 2020.

Attending the ceremony were Professor and Academician Chau Van Minh, Party Central Committee member, Secretary of the Party Committee of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Comrade Ha Thi Nga, Member of the Party Central Committee, and Chairman of the Vietnam Women's Union; Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Doan, former Vice State President, President of Vietnam Association for Study Promotion, and Chairwoman of Vietnam Kovalevskaia Award Committee; Prof. Dr. Pham Thi Tran Chau, President of the Vietnam Women's Intellectual Association; Kovalevskaia Award winners and a large number of scientists.

The Kovalevskaia Award 2020 was presented to the female collective of the Institute of Natural Products Chemistry, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Truong Thanh Huong, cardiology senior lecturer, Hanoi Medical University (Ministry of Health), for outstanding achievements in scientific research.
In addition to awarding the annual Kovalevskaia Award, the Kovalevskaia Award Committee also awarded Kovalevskaia scholarships in 2021 to 3 students specializing in Mathematics with excellent academic achievements of the High School for Gifted Students under the University of Science, the National University - Hanoi.

Presenting Kovalevskaia Award 2020

The 35th anniversary ceremony of the Kovalevskaia Award and the presenting of the Kovalevskaia Award in 2020 is an opportunity to look back on the award's 35 year journey with Vietnamese science, including the contributions of Vietnamese female scientists, since the country entered the Doi Moi period and became a prestigious national award for female scientists. The achievements of research and application of science into reality of collectives and individuals of female scientists are highly applied and have high socio-economic value, significantly contributing to the achievements in the country’s renewal.

The Kovalevskaia Award, named after Russian mathematician Sophia Kovalevskaia, began to be awarded in Vietnam in 1985. This is the first international award for female scientists in the field of natural sciences in Vietnam. Kovalevskaia Vietnam is an annual prestigious award given to scientific female teams and individuals with outstanding achievements in research and application of science in reality, bringing many benefits in various socio-economic areas. Over the past 35 years, the Award has been presented to 20 collectives and 49 outstanding female scientists in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, agriculture, medicine and information technology.
