Book Conference and Exhibition 2024: Bringing science and technology books closer to readers
This is an annual activity within the framework of activities to celebrate Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18), the Establishment Day of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (May 20), in response to The 3rd Vietnam Book and Reading Culture Day 2024 with the theme: "Good books need readers: Precious books for you".
Ms. Nguyen Thi Van Nga, Director of the Institute for Scientific Information, said that books are an invaluable resource that helps people form and accumulate knowledge to continuously improve themselves and contribute to social development. The book exhibition is organized with the desire to build and develop the reading movement, aiming to build a learning society, absorbing scientific knowledge to contribute to the country's socio-economic development.

This is also an opportunity for the Institute for Scientific Information to introduce the valuable resources that the VAST Library is keeping. At the same time, it also creates opportunities for scientists and units inside and outside the VAST to meet, exchange and share books and scientific and technological information resources, and experiences in effective exploitation and use these resources in their scientific research and training activities. Thereby, maximizing the value of the book for the research careers of scientists, especially for young researchers, as well as for practitioners and students.
Dr. Do Huy Cuong, Director of the Institute of Marine Geology and Geophysics, introduced the content of two books that won the National Book Award
At the Discussion, Dr. Do Huy Cuong, Director of the Institute of Marine Geology and Geophysics, introduced the contents of two books: "Cover environmental changes and solutions for sustainable development in atolls in the Truong Sa Archipelago" (Author: Do Huy Cuong; Natural Science and Technology Publishing House) was awarded B at the 3rd National Book Award in 2020. This publication is part of the Monograph series on Vietnam's Seas and Islands, which is Precious source of materials serving scientific research activities, natural resource and environmental management, and sustainable socio-economic development for the Truong Sa Archipelago area; and the book "Scientific basis for determining the outer boundary of Vietnam's continental shelf according to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea" (Authors: Bui Cong Que - Editor, Phung Van Phach, Do Huy Cuong , Tran Tuan Dung, Le Duc Anh; Natural Science and Technology Publishing House) was awarded A prize at the 6th National Book Award in 2023. The book belongs to the Monograph category, synthesizing the results of the cluster of research projects in Vietnam's waters over the past 20 years on the topic of sea management and determining Vietnam's sea and island sovereignty. It is a project and three national science and technology topics implemented and completed at the Academy in coordination with the National Border Committee and ministries and branches.
Dr. Doan Thi Yen Oanh, Deputy Director of Publishing House Science and Technology, introduced the book "Polymer Composite Materials: Science and Technology" (Authors: Tran Vinh Dieu, Ho Xuan Nang, Pham Anh Tuan, Doan Thi Yen Oanh; Natural Science and Technology Publishing House) won the C prize at the 5th National Book Award in 2022. The book shares general and in-depth knowledge about base materials and reinforcing fibers technological additives, manufacturing techniques, material properties, methods and techniques of research, measurement and evaluation according to standards; and brings a more general overview of the importance of applying Polymer Composite materials - the most important group of materials in many manufacturing industries today in Vietnam and around the world.
Regarding the issue of reading books among young people of the VAST in the IR4.0 era, Mr. Phan Ke Son, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union of the VAST, said that it is necessary to develop a reading culture for union members, starting with reading. Choose book sources, build reading habits and apply knowledge from books into each person's learning and research practice.

The book exhibition takes place until May 20, 2024 at the VAST Library with thousands of books, including many books and magazines of the VAST, monographs and magazines of Publishing House Science and Technology, Pi magazine (Vietnam Mathematical Association); Publications of IGroup Vietnam Company and a number of other units. Especially when attending the Exhibition, readers will be given books according to the Book Donation Program of the Institute for Scientific Information.
