Belgian delegation visits Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology

On March 3rd, 2011, the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology received a delegation from the Kingdom of Belgium, led by Jean Claude Marcourt, Vice President of Governments of Wallonie region and French-speaking Community of Belgium, and Minister of Economy, Foreign Trade, New Technologies, Graduate and Post-graduate Training. The delegation was welcomed by Prof. Chau Van Minh, President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, and representatives from the Department of International Cooperation and institutes under Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

At the beginning of the reception, Prof. Chau Van Minh on behalf of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology congratulated the delegation from the Kingdom of Belgium for their working visit to the academy, and reviewed the cooperation between Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Kingdom of Belgium over past years, especially since 2007. The academy has promoted a close relationship with Belgian universities in human resource training and technology transfer, as well as the implementation of cooperative projects in biological technology, natural products chemistry, protection of metals from corrosion, geology, sea environment and space technology. The two sides have made their efforts to carry out cooperative projects and obtained scientific results. Prof. Minh said that cooperation with the Kingdom of Belgium was an important and effective cooperation of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Jean Claude Marcour introduced the strong points of the Wallonie region’s industry, including space technology, and expressed his hope to further the approval of an ODA project of the Belgian government on utilizing small satellites to monitor environment and natural disasters.

Prof. Minh appreciated the working visit by Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. He expressed his hope to further cooperation in science and technology and congratulated the successful visit to Vietnam.
