Overview of the Ceremony
According to Decision 80/QD-HDGSNN of the State Council of Professors, in 2023, USTH has 3 individuals recognized as qualified for the titles of Professor and Associate Professor. As follows:
• Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, currently serving as Rector of USTH, was appointed Professor of Chemistry.
• Dr. Mai Huong, currently holding the position of Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Water - Environment - Oceanography, was appointed Associate Professor of Chemistry.
• Dr. Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences, was recognized with the title of Associate Professor of Pharmacology.

Being recognized and appointed by the State Council of Professors is a great honor, marking the growth and professional development of each new Professor /Associate Professor, which is the motivation for the new Professors / Associate Professor to continue striving and dedicating themselves to their teaching and scientific research career.
Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh said that Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology is the leading national scientific research center, where many experienced scientists work in the fields of natural sciences. In addition to research, the training of high-quality scientific and technological human resources to serve the socio-economic development of the country is a strong focus. Currently, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology has three training institutions: Graduate University of Science and Technology, Institute of Mathematics and USTH. In 2023, the Academy will have 21 new Professors and Associate Professors accredited by the State Professorship Council. Earlier, in December, the Academy of Science and Technology and the Institute of Mathematics also successfully held the Decision Announcement Ceremony and awarded the 2023 Professors and Associate Professors. This is the first year that USTH solemnly held the Decision Announcement Ceremony and awarded certificates of meeting the standards of professors and associate professors, recognizing an important milestone on the development journey of the school.

As President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Vice Chairman of the Council of State Professors, Prof. Acad. Chau Van Minh warmly congratulated three female scientists - lecturers who met the standards of Professor and Associate Professor of USTH in 2023. At the same time, he expressed his belief that, in the coming time, under the leadership of two Rector professors: Prof. Jean-Marc Lavest and Prof. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, together with the unanimous determination of USTH's lecturers-researchers and staff, the university will continue to stick to the USTH development strategy for the period of 2022-2030 to achieve the goal of becoming an excellent research-oriented university of the country and in the region, actively contribute to the training of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in particular and the education of the country in general.
The ceremony ended in an atmosphere of joy and excitement. This is a symbolic event for USTH to welcome and congratulate lecturers/researchers who have been promoted after a long time of effort and dedication. The event acts as a catalyst, motivating other lecturers-researchers who also have excellent achievements and will continue to strive for the title of Professor and Associate Professor in the future.

| Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, currently serving as Rector of USTH, was appointed Professor of Chemistry. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh holds a PhD in Physical Chemistry - Analytical Chemistry from the University of Paris VI, France. The main research direction of Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh includes: Research on synthesis of materials and coatings with corrosion protection for CT3 steel substrate in different environments; Research on the synthesis of applied materials in environmental treatment and Biomedical materials on the basis of Hydroxyapatite. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh has published 189 scientific articles, including 54 scientific articles in prestigious international journals in SCIE system, four articles in ESCI system and nine articles in Scopus system; granted one Vietnamese patent; Published three monographs belonging to reputable publishers and two reference books belonging to reputable publishers. Besides research, Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh has also taught and mentored many graduate students and PhD students at Academy of Science and Technology and Hanoi University of Education. In the course of her work, Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh has received many awards and certificates of merit, such as the Youth Award in 2005, the UNESCO- L'OREAL Vietnam National Fellowship for Women in Science Award in 2010, the Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Education and Training in 2020; Certificate of Merit from the President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh has been with USTH since 2016, starting as Vice Rector and then in 2019, she was entrusted by Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to be the Rector of USTH, leading the University in an important period: sustainable development and expansion. During the past seven years, under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh and USTH Management Board, the University has made great strides in training and research, becoming France's most successful higher education cooperation project abroad and proud to be a symbol of the friendly relationship between Vietnam and France. |
| Dr. Mai Huong, currently holding the position of Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Water - Environment - Oceanography, was appointed Associate Professor of Chemistry. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Huong holds a PhD in Geochemistry and Ecological Toxicology from the University of Bordeaux, France. Two main research directions of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mai Huong include: - Environmental toxicology: The study evaluates the residues of toxins in the environment/organism and the influence of these toxins on organisms from the level of molecules, cells, organ organization to the growth of organisms. |
| Dr. Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh - Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Life Sciences was recognized with the title of Associate Professor of Pharmacology. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh holds a PhD in Cell Biology majoring in Plant Biology from Amiens Picardie University Jules Verne, France. The main research direction of Assoc. Dr. Nguyen Thi Kieu Oanh includes: - Metabolomics analysis aims to understand the biosynthesis mechanism of potential active ingredients of medicinal herbs and the stress resistance mechanism of plants as well as as a basis for exploiting the compound structure relationship - biological effects. |
