Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Ha, Director of the Institute of Oceanography was honored with 2023 Kovalevskaia prize

In the afternoon of March 7, 2024, at the Government Office, under the authorization of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, Deputy Prime Minister Le Minh Khai awarded the 2023 Kovalevskaia Prize to two female scientists with outstanding achievements in scientific research, including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Ha, Director of Institute of Oceanography, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Ha discusses the results of marine toxin determination with the research team

Pioneer in marine toxicology research and food safety in Vietnam and the Western Pacific region, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Ha has spent 30 years pursuing this field. To date, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Ha has chaired six scientific research projects at the State level and at the level of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; published 104 scientific articles including 41 articles in prestigious international journals; is the main author of one useful solution, one monograph and one bilingual monograph chapter. Research results of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Ha and her research team have contributed to social security by disseminating knowledge through leaflets, wall paintings and direct TV interviews to reduce the risk to public health from Vietnamese poisonous marine animals. The above results also contribute to the sustainable development of the marine economy by providing a scientific basis for monitoring seafood quality and supporting businesses to improve the reputation of exported seafood products.

In the role of Dean of the Faculty of Marine Science and Technology of Academy of Science and Technology, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Ha has directed and coordinated training on marine science and technology for the Central and Central Highlands provinces; is a visiting professor at the University of Tokyo, Japan and a visiting lecturer of the Vietnam People's Navy Command.

International activities of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Ha in the positions of Chairman of Vietnam's Intergovernmental Committee on Oceanography, member of the Legal and Technical Committee of the Ocean Floor Power has contributed to enhancing Vietnam's image and position in the world and protecting security, sovereignty and national interests at sea.

As the only female Director of the 16 Directors of the Institute of Oceanography from 1922 to the present, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Ha has oriented and led the unit in scientific research, capacity building and human resource training, and achieved many emulation titles and forms of commendation at the State level and the level of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dao Viet Ha received the Certificate of Merit from the President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in 2016, 2017 and 2022; was a 2021 Academy Emulation Soldier; awarded the "Face of the Year" award by the Vietnam Public Employees' Union in 2022, the Creative Labor Diploma by the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor in 2020; certificate of merit for outstanding achievements in the program "75 thousand initiatives-overcoming difficulties and development" of the Khanh Hoa Labor Federation in 2021; Certificate of Merit "Typical Intellectuals of Khanh Hoa Province in 2022" by Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee.
