ASEAN Biodiversity Hero Scientific Prof. Dr. Dang Huy Huynh

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of ASEAN, ASEAN member countries honoured ASEAN biodiversity heroes in Manila, the Philippines. Vietnam’s representative, Scientific Prof. Dr. Dang Huy Huynh, former Director of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Association for Conservation of Nature and Environment, and Chairman of the Vietnam Zoology Association, was awarded this noble title.

2017 ASEAN Biodiversity Heroes Award symbol

Previously, as Director of the Institute of Ecology and Biological Resources, Prof. Dang Huy Huynh chaired many important State-level scientific projects, promoting and developing biodiversity research in different parts of Vietnam, and announcing valuable works on Vietnam’s fauna. Prof. Dang Huy Huynh was also the one who built and linked diverse research cooperation programs on biodiversity conservation among Vietnamese and international organizations and agencies, contributing to the development of the strategy on nature conservation in Vietnam and ASEAN countries. After his retirement, Prof. Dang Huy Huynh has continued to make contribution to nature and environment protection, as an adviser to managers in policy making, encouraging communities to participate in biodiversity conservation programs, raising awareness about environmental protection. Prof. Dang Huy Huynh was also a teacher of many generations of pupils who are now managers and scientists who continue to explore and conserve biological resources in Vietnam.

The title of ASEAN Biodiversity Hero was awarded to Scientific Prof. Dr. Dang Huy Huynh in order to honour the tireless efforts and contributions of the scientist in research, training and conservation of biodiversity in Vietnam.
