Speaking at the ceremony, Major General Tran Minh Le said that the strong socio-economic development has put great pressure on environmental protection. The situation of violations of the law on natural resources and environment is still complicated in many areas and fields, affecting the quality of the environment, reducing natural resources, affecting the national sustainable development, the quality of life and human health.

According to the Department of Investigation and Control of Resources and Marine Environmental Protection, the coastal area of Vietnam has many types of waste floating in the sea, including urban waste, domestic waste, waste from agricultural activities, hospitals, waste from fishing activities, aquaculture and from marine transportation. However, there has been no really effective monitoring tools, as due to the broad scope, traditional methods of monitoring can hardly be effective.

Remote sensing technology is an important and effective tool to help the Environmental Crime Prevention and Control Police Force to have a base for giving advice on the planning of policies and laws, strategies on crime prevention, and to have the necessary information to discover, prevent and handle violations of the law on natural resources and the environment more effectively.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Anh Tuan, General Director of Vietnam Space Center, said that in order to implement the Strategy for development and application of space science and technology until 2030 and prepare to exploit the LOTUSat satellite- 1, over the past time, Vietnam Space Center has actively coordinated with units of ministries and branches across the country to concretize cooperation for socio-economic development.

At the ceremony, delegates discussed to clarify the role of remote sensing technology in crime prevention and control, as well as how to coordinate and share data to provide information quickly, effectively and ensure security and safety.
