Ambassador of the Kingdom of Netherlands to Vietnam visits VAST
The reception drew the participation of Prof. Chau Van Minh, president of VAST; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ninh Khac Ban, head of the Department of International Cooperation; representatives from institutes under VAST such as the Institute of Biotechnology, the Institute of Information Technology, and the Institute of National Products Chemistry.
President Minh expressed his pleasure at welcoming the ambassador and appreciated Vietnam-Netherlands cooperation ties. Together with the Netherlands, VAST continued the fine cooperation by carrying out the Programme Vietnam – Basic – Cooperation to renovate science towards economic development on the foundation of biology. The programme focused on researching, discovering new material resources, selectively exploiting and using them through biotechnology and background technologies, and biotechnology to create necessary materials for economic development. This was efforts by scientists from the Netherlands’s BE-Basic Association and scientists from VAST in order to bring scientific advances in socio-economic development. The president hoped to promote further cooperation in science and technology between VAST and other scientific organizations, as well as academies of the Netherlands.

The ambassador Joop Scheeffers thanked President Chau Van Minh for his reception. He said that the cooperation between VAST and BE-Basic would mark a new progress in cooperation between the two sides, hence establishing deep and wide cooperation in many fields and science and technology development in a new position. Joop Scheeffers also exchanged with VAST the opportunities to expand cooperation with scientific fields which are the strength of the Netherlands and VAST, bringing practical interest and values to the two sides in water management and climate changes, agriculture (coffee and breeding), in navigation, ship building technology, transportation and gas and petrol.
Concluding the reception, president of VAST thanked the ambassador for his concern about scientific cooperation, especially cooperation between VAST and the Netherlands. President hoped that the Netherlands and VAST will have more opportunity to share useful information about promoting cooperation.
