The laboratory will mark a new development in building and implementing two new aeronautical training programs, including the Bachelor program of Aeronautical Engineering and the Master program of International Air Transport Operations Management.

Speaking at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Dinh Thi Mai Thanh, Acting Rector of USTH, said that the laboratory’s birth was the result of close cooperation between USTH and its partners and enterprises, as well as an important step in the goal of training development and research of the university. With a total investment of USD 700,000 (VND 16 billion), the laboratory would install modern machines and equipment according to the standards of international aviation training schools, promising to bring the environment of studying theory with practice to provide the best teaching and learning conditions for lecturers and students.

The aviation market in Vietnam is currently assessed as having the fastest growth rate in Southeast Asia and the third fastest in the world. Therefore, Vietnamese and French governments have paid close attention to training high quality human resources in this field in bilateral strategic cooperation in science and technology education.

Meeting the needs of the market, the Aeronautical Engineering and Air Transport Operations Management programmes were established on the strong financial support of Airbus Group and comprehensive cooperation with two leading aviation businesses in Vietnam, including the Vietnam Airlines VAECO; two European leading aviation institutions, including the French National Civil Aviation School (ENAC), the French Institute of Aeronautics and Aeronautics (IAS) and the Union of 40 prestigious French universities and research institutes for USTH development (USTH Consortium).

The two aviation training programs are expected to bring the quality of training to international standards and become a reference for aviation training, especially in the field of maintenance and operation, meeting the needs of the strongly growing market in Vietnam and Southeast Asia.

Experiencing long negotiation and exchange between USTH and its partners such as Airbus, VNA, VAECO, IAS, ENAC, in the academic year of 2018-2019, USTH officially opened the first course with 32 students in the field of bachelor training of maintenance technicians. Airline training programs at both bachelor and master levels receive Airbus’s financial support and VNA"s recruitment commitment for 150 students in five training courses.

Airbus International Cooperation Director Francois de Bortoli also congratulated USTH and its partners at the event. He expressed his strong belief in the success of the new aviation programs at USTH, and expressed his desire to have a long-term partnership with USTH not only in developing this program, but also towards building in Vietnam a balanced and sustainable aviation ecosystem.
