A study of technology on production of Ni-Cr-Mo-Ti dental superalloy for teeth restoration technique
Ni76Cr14Mo5Ti4AlCu dental superalloy is equivalent with Talladium CE 0197 alloy made in Italy possessing the content approximately 76%Ni, 14%Cr, 5%Mo, 4%Ti and microelements of Al and Cu. This alloy has melting and casting temperature approximately 1380 oC, to create an optimal casting technology of alloy ingot which is poured into Cr-Ni-Mo-Ti alloy heat resistant mould. Having low melting and casting temperature, alloy can be cast according to the technology of low pressure or semi-solid.
Since 2004, scientists from the Institute of Materials Sciences under the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology have been conducted a study of technology on production of Ni-Cr-Mo-Ti dental superalloy for teeth restoration. Scientists made further studies on the liquid line base, alloying metals, the formation and nucleus growth, solidification and crystallization during the alloy casting and cooling process. They also researched the reaction among joint metals, the formation and transformation of austenit in the product.

Based on this foundation, scientists chose materials and technology of melting-immersing-dissolving metals at 1420oC which has high melting temperature from 1453oC (Ni) to 2600oC (Mo) to make products with low casting temperature from 1350 to 1380oC. Then, casting ingot into a metal mould to obtain austenit structure and Ni3Ti and Ni3AlTi strengthening intermetallics with thin scales and regular fine morphology possessing glossy bright surface such as white gold.
Over many years of research, the study has obtained major objectives on science and technology and practical application. It defined Ni76Cr14Mo5Ti4AlCu dental superalloy which has the most optimal element of Ni(73-76%)-Cr(16-17%)-Mo(5-6%Mo)-Ti(3,5-4%)-Cu,Al. This is the latest dental alloy of Vietnam, which has high mechanical and physical properties, and higher corrosion resistance in artificial saliva than the Italian dental alloy of Talladium CE 0197, and good processing property. The dental lab produced many sets of crowns, bridges and jaw of porcelain teeth for several dental clinics in Hanoi to inlay in people’s teeth over the years. It was appreciated to meet good quality in biomedical compatibility, to have high antibacterial properties, and an aesthetic beautifully white surface like real tooth.
