14th national conference on solid state physics and materials science: a major and prestigious scientific forum and a starting point for interdisciplinary collaboration

11/12/2025
From November 5 to 7, 2025, the Institute of Materials Science – Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology (VAST), in cooperation with the Vietnam Physical Society’s Materials Science Division, Tay Nguyen University and the Institute of Physics (under VAST), successfully organised the 14th national conference on solid state physics and materials science (SPMS 2025) at Tay Nguyen University, Dak Lak province. More than 500 scientists from over 40 research institutes and universities nationwide attended the conference. Among them were three Chairs of the Professor Councils of the disciplines/interdisciplinary fields (Physics; Chemistry – Food Technology; Metallurgy), three Chairs of the Scientific Councils of the Nafosted Fund (Basic Research in Physics; Applied Research in Materials – Integrated Microcircuits; Applied Research in Chemical Technology), along with many leaders from key research institutes and top universities nationwide.

Speaking at the opening session on the morning of November 6, 2025, Prof. Dr Doan Dinh Phuong, Head of the Conference Organising Committee, emphasised that SPMS 2025 is not only a major and prestigious specialised scientific forum for the solid-state physics and materials science research community, but also a platform for connection and innovation, creating interdisciplinary collaborations among Physics, Chemistry, Materials Technology, Biomedical Science, Agriculture and Environment.

This year’s Conference recorded a total of 481 scientific presentations, including 6 plenary lectures, 23 invited talks, 109 oral presentations and 343 poster presentations, divided into seven subcommittees: Physics, electronic materials, magnetism and devices; Semiconductor physics, photonics and devices; Energy and engineering materials; Biomedical, agricultural and environmental materials; Modelling and artificial intelligence in materials research; Corrosion and materials protection; and Poster Session.

The presentations reflected high-level basic research with clear application orientation, demonstrating the strong and diverse development of solid-state physics and materials science in Vietnam. Many reports in the fields of biomedicine, agriculture and environment hold practical significance for socio-economic development in the Central Highlands and the country as a whole. The Conference also published a Proceedings volume containing 230 full-text scientific papers, all rigorously peer-reviewed and edited.

The Conference took place successfully. Notably, due to the large number of participants, the opening session and the plenary session had to be held simultaneously in two auditoriums (400-seat and 200-seat), with live broadcasting. The Conference concluded smoothly at 17:00, with delegates expressing warm farewells and looking forward to meeting again at the 15th SPMS Conference in 2027.
