Project's title Research on evaluating national multi-target geochemistry for three provinces Cao Bang, Lang Son, Quang Ninh
Project’s code TĐĐQG.03/21-23
Research hosting institution Institute of Geography
Project leader’s name Dr. Nguyen Manh Ha
Project duration 01/01/2021 - 31/12/2024
Project’s budget 10,600 million VND
Classify Grade B
Goal and objectives of the project

- Building a national multi-target geochemical database for three provinces: Cao Bang, Lang Son, Quang Ninh;
- Establishing a national multi-target geochemical database for three provinces;
- Orienting the use of multi-target geochemical database for sustainable development and environmental protection in the region.

Main results

- Theoretical results:
+ The results of the project will contribute to the development of a methodology for geochemistry: a systematic, integrated and multidisciplinary approach, an economic - ecological - environmental approach in the management and rational use of resources from the perspective of sustainable development.
+ For the first time in Vietnam, there is a set of national geochemical base maps for the three provinces of Cao Bang, Lang Son, Quang Ninh for soil, surface water, groundwater, sediments at a scale of 1/250,000 and a scale of 1/50,000 for the key district of Ba Che, Quang Ninh province.
- Applied results:
+ The research results of Component 3 will provide a multi-objective geochemical database of strategic importance because these research results not only contribute to the management and exploitation of resources, but also help solve urgent problems such as environmental pollution, climate change and energy security. Investing in research and application of geochemistry is the key to sustainable development, environmental protection, improving the effectiveness of socio-economic development planning, regional and inter-regional development of the Northeastern border provinces, from central to local levels.
+ For local units to which the research results are transferred, Component 03 provides the latest updated scientific bases for reference in applying geochemistry in proposing solutions for socio-economic development and rational use of resources.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- The HP3 project has collected a rich and comprehensive set of geochemical data on the geochemistry of soil, surface water, groundwater and stream sediments and a set of data measuring environmental parameters (soil, surface water, groundwater) (pH, Eh, T, Ec) for 3 northern border provinces (Cao Bang, Lang Son, Quang Ninh) and the key district of Ba Che (Quang Ninh).
- A set of single-element and multi-element geochemical background maps is built with explanatory reports at a scale of 1/250,000 for the three provinces and a scale of 1/50,000 for the key research area of Ba Che district for soil, surface water, groundwater and stream sediments with a total of over 589 maps.
- Initial proposal on the orientation of exploiting and using multi-objective geochemical data for the research area to support the discovery and search for mineral resources; in soil pollution research, in which the most important are potentially toxic elements such as: As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Mn, Ni, Pb, Zn for food security and human health; research on soil quality and improving agricultural efficiency, as well as assessing water quality for the management, exploitation and sustainable use of resources.
