Goal and objectives of the project | - Successful synthesis of multifunctional composite materials with flocculation and adsorption capabilities based on alginate combined with activated carbon and magnetic iron nanoparticles. |
Main results | - Synthesized coagulant is a composite based on alginate with the components Fe3O4, activated carbon and alginate with the order Fe3O4:AC:Alg ratio of 4:1:1. Composite material has a saturation level of 32 emu/g, is capable of effectively treating solutions with turbidity ≤ 340 NTU, treatment efficiency reaches more than 99%, water turbidity after treatment reaches QCVN 01 -1:2018/BYT. The material is also capable of effectively treating water contaminated with heavy metal Cu2+ ions exceeding 10 times the allowable standard concentration of QCVN 01-1:2018/BYT. The material also effectively treats the turbidity of Red River water to the allowable standard threshold according to QCVN 01-1:2018/BYT. |
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results | An environmentally friendly material derived from natural alginate has been created to make a multi-purpose coagulant material that can treat turbid water and water contaminated with heavy metals, potentially replacing traditional materials. |

Recommendations | The project has successfully manufactured a natural, environmentally friendly coagulant material from alginate using the gel formation method. Research and evaluation results show that the material is capable of treating polluted water and surface water with many different components. Through the project, the research team cooperated with the Research Institute of Physical and Chemical Problems, Belarusian State University, and improved their qualifications in researching and manufacturing environmental treatment materials. We are looking forward to the support of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technololy to continue this cooperation. |
