Goal and objectives of the project

Overall objectives: Improving productivity, quality and efficiency of beef cattle rearing in Quang Binh province
Detail goals:
- Creation of 250 F1 crossbred calves (BBB x Zebu cross) for meat (including at least 150 F1.BBB crossbred calves and 100 Zebu crossbred cows that have been pregnant for more than 3 months);
- Develop 01 technical process for creating F1 hybrid calves (BBB x hybrid Zebu) in Quang Binh.

Main results
- Theoretical results:
The study has selected 330 Zebu crossbred cows that are qualified in appearance. Selected cows have the standard good appearance of Zebu hybrid cows. Selected Zebu crossbred cows ensure the following criteria: Average weight is 338.75kg, average number of litters is 4.24 litters, cows meet the standards of reproductive status (soft uterus, fertile ovaries, large follicles or active corpus luteum in the ovary). 
Using BBB cow semen imported from Belgium, belonging to cows: Armurier, Nebuleux, Oulare, Rufus, Touffu to insemination for crossbred Zebu cows. The first insemination was performed with 330 Zebu crossbred cows, resulting in 236 pregnant cows, the average pregnancy rate was 71.52%. Number of cows mated for the second time was 94 cows. As a result, there were 64 pregnant cows, equivalent to the pregnancy rate of the second time reaching an average of 68.09%. The average percentage of pregnant cows for both mating times reached 70.75%, the crossbreeding coefficient was 1.41. Out of 300 pregnant cows, 11 cows had miscarriages, and 289 cows were pregnant and waiting for farrowing. 
The number of calves born was 290, of which 148 male calves (51.03%) and 142 female calves (48.97%). The number of live calves is 286 (147 male calves and 139 female calves). Calves grow and develop well (birth weight 30.75kg, 4 month weight 163.03kg, 6-month-old calves 206.42kg, 9-month-old calves 292.20kg, 12-month-old calves weight 358.22 kg).
Successfully built "Process of creating F1 hybrid calves (BBB x Lai Zebu) in Quang Binh". The process ensures stability, science, and is suitable for local conditions. Scientific level: The pregnancy rate was 70.75%; calving rate reached 100%; calves grow well, average birth weight 30.75kg.
Organized training for 10 grassroots technicians and 20 cow raising households. Support to build 01 artificial insemination cluster in Chau Hoa commune, Tuyen Hoa district.
Scientific conference: Developing meat-oriented F1.BBB hybrid calves in Quang Binh.
- Applied results:
Organized training for technical staff and livestock households on: Obstetrical examination techniques for cows; Techniques to diagnose pregnant cows; Techniques of care and feeding of cows after insemination and F1.BBB crossbred calves.
Successful application of frozen semen of BBB beef cattle to improve beef herds in 14 communes in Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province.
The process of creating F1 hybrid calves (BBB x Lai Zebu) developed by the project is currently being widely applied on a large scale in Tuyen Hoa district.
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

The results of the project are the first scientific and practical basis to contribute to the introduction of the Blanc Blue Belge super meat beef breed to improve the productivity and quality of beef cattle in Quang Binh province.

286 F1 crossbred calves (BBB male x Zebu crossbreed), including 147 male calves and 139 female calves, calves are healthy and well developed (birth weight 30.75kg, 4 month weight 163.03kg, 6 months weight 206.42kg, 9 months weight 292.2kg, 12 months weight 358.22 kg). On November 24, 2022, the project handed over the above calves to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tuyen Hoa district, Quang Binh province, and then handed over to breeding households.
