Goal and objectives of the project
Evaluating the ability to degrade organic dyes the degradation in water, through the degradation of  two typical dyes – azo and reactive dyes, by non-thermal plasma combined with self-synthesized Feo/bentonite catalyst on the dielectric barrier discharge (DBD) plasma reactor on an experimental scale.
Main results
Theoretical results:
- Successfully synthesized and determined the characteristics and adsorption capacity of Feo/Bentonite catalyst.
- Built an experimental scale non-thermal plasma reactor including 3 working models.
- Studied on removing azo and reactive dyes by the non-thermal plasma reactors in these three models.
- Preliminary assessed the ability to use this system for real wastewater treatment.
Applied results:
The model of textile dyeing wastewater treatment using plasma in combination with the catalysis is the premise for the research and development to treat wastewater containing refractory organic compounds.
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results
Using non-thermal plasma to treat water and wastewater is a new research direction with many advantages. The project has set up plasma reactor systems running in different modes for both experimental and real samples. The results confirm that this technique can be effectively applied in practice.

Recommendations
Non-thermal plasma is a novel method for water and wastewater treatment. The main technical barriers that limit the practical application of this method are the lack of high power efficient plasma reactors. Therefore, to be able to develop this research direction towards large-scale applications, we would like to continue revieving funding from Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology for the researchs both in terms of the treatment techniques as well as the development of large plasma reactor with high efficiency.
