Project’s budget 200 million VND
Classify Excellent
Goal and objectives of the project

- Strengthen scientific cooperation between the two units in particular and between the two countries in general in basic and applied research.
- Identify insect fungi capable of killing plant pests to develop biological pesticides in agriculture.

Main results

As a result, the study has obtained samples of the grasshopper Oxya chinensis damaging rice with signs of fungal infection in Huong Toan ward, Huong Tra town, Thua Thien Hue province. A total of 37 fungal strains were isolated on the PDA plate. Of these, 12 strains of fungi (NL1-NL12) with different morphologis were selected for further insecticidal tests. The insecticidal activity against the grasshopper Oxya chinensis was evaluated, thereby identifying three strains NL3, NL4, and NL12 with the highest insecticidal effect on young grasshoppers with mortality rates of 87.73%, 89,81%, and 100% after 15 days of testing, respectively. Identified fungal strains with high activity are Aspergillus tamarii, Beauveria bassiana, and Metarhizium anisopliae, respectively. A large amount of fermentation was carried out and the chemical composition of Aspergillus tamarii NL3 was investigated, thereby isolating and determining the chemical structures of 5 isolated compounds including griseofulvin (1), isogriseofulvin (2), cytochalasin J (3), solasonine (4), and solamargine (5).

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

Three strains of fungi with strong insecticidal activity (Aspergillus tamarii, Beauveria bassiana, and Metarhizium anisopliae) have been isolated and identified from samples of grasshoppers damaging rice collected in Thua Thien Hue;
Five compounds, griseofulvin (1), isogriseofulvin (2), cytochalasin J (3), solasonine (4), and solamargine (5) were isolated and determined from Aspergillus tamarii. Among them, compounds 1-4 were isolated from the genus Aspergillus for the first time and compound 5 was isolated for the first time from Aspergillus tamarii species.
