Goal and objectives of the project

Research on nutrients wastewater treatment by microalgae combined membrane method and build a model of nutrients wastewater treatment system by microalgae combined  membrane with a capacity of 10 - 20 l/m2.h meet QCVN 40:2011/BTNMT standard for Nitrogen and Phosphorus.

Main results
- Theoretical results:
+ On the basis of research, learning about microalgae and membrane technology in wastewater treatment, the team has studied, calculated, designed and manufactured a model of nutrients wastewater treatment system by microalgae method combined membrane with a capacity of 10 - 20 l/m2.h
+ The data set on factors affecting the growth and development of Chlorella vulgaris microalgae in piggery wastewater have been determined: pHopt = 7 ~ 8; temperature ≈ 30oC; luminous intensity 4000 lux; CO2 intensity: 60 ml/min; HRT = 5 days.
+ The treatment efficiency of microalgae model system combined with membrane has been determined. With a water retention time of 5 days, the efficiency of model system is relatively large with the treatment efficiency of NH4+, TP and COD respectively 96.06%, 70.20% and 86.29%. The output parameters meet QCVN 40:2011/BTNMT (column B)
+ Determine the cause of membrane clogging and optimal operating conditons to minimize membrane clogging: aeration intensity 0.05 l/cm2/min, filtration capacity 15 l/m2.h. Choose NaOCl to clean the membrane, soak the membrane in 1000 mg/l NaOCl solution for 2 hours to restore the membrane’s filtration capacity.
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results
Compared with normally biological treatment methods such as activated sludge, the operation is required to ensure the growth of microorganisms, and the generation of sludge in the treatment system is not only costly but also creates pressures in the treatment of hazardous waste (sludge) in our country. This research has studied the combination of microalgae and membrane technology to treat nutrients wastewater. The use of microalgae is evaluated as a sustainable development solution in wastewater treatment and biomass recovery. When the use of microalgae for wastewater treatment, the amount of biomass maintained in the system is closely related to the treatment efficiency and membrane technology can be used to solve the above problem.
