Goal and objectives of the project

- Investigate and survey the composition and knowledge of using the traditional medicinal plants of Vietnam and Laos, focusing on some ethnic groups that are the same or similarity between Vietnam and Laos;
- Contributing to research on software management at the Lao National Institute of Science in traditional crop research.

Main results

- With the goal of studying traditional plants of Laos and Vietnam, the study conducted (1) to investigate the species composition and knowledge of using traditional medicinal plants of Vietnam, focusing on a number of ethnic groups with have or are similar between Vietnam and Laos; (2) determination of chemical composition of medicinal plants used (01 species); Determination of chemical composition and biological activity of essential oils from some medicinal plant species (04 species). Specific results include:
- Surveying the experience of using medicinal plants of Thai people in Son La province, the results obtained 110 species of higher vascular plants belonging to 94 genera, 54 families, Medicinal plants are used by Thai people to treat 12 groups of diseases.
- There are 87 species of higher vascular plants, belonging to 82 genera and 55 plant families used by the Van Kieu people in Quang Binh. Medicinal plants used by the Van Kieu people in Quang Binh to treat diseases are diverse and abundant (12 groups of diseases), the group of medicinal plants for skin diseases accounts for the highest percentage, followed by the group of bone and joint diseases. The third group of gastrointestinal healing species;
- The chemical composition of the species Nepenthes mirabilis (Lour.) has been studied. A total of 5 compounds were identified.
- Researched the chemical composition of essential oils obtained from the following species: Hedychium villosum Wall., Hedychium stenopetalum, Berberis walichiana; Mahonia bealei.  The study also tested the biological activity of essential oils obtained from Hedychium villosum Wall.,Hedychium stenopetalum.
- Published 01 article in SCIE journal: Bui, V. T., Nguyen, V. A. T., Chu, T. H. T., Dinh, T. T., Do, H. G., and Nguyen, T. D. (2022). "Anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic chemical constituents from the trunks of Berberis wallichiana," BioResources 17(3), 4297-4305.
- Supported the training of two undergraduate students majoring in Biology and Environmental Resources.
