Goal and objectives of the project | General objective: to build scientific and technological ground for creating additional fresh water resource on Cat Ba island.
Specific objectives:
• To determine effect of salt intrusion on fresh water on Cat Ba island and propose solutions for prevention, regeneration of salty water resource.
• To generate high quantity of fresh water on Cat Ba island by practical model. |
Main results | Theoretical results:
• To determine charateristics of underground water movement, current status of salty underground water, mainly zones of salt intrusion and trend of underground water salinization on Cat Ba island.
• To propose orientation for building solutions of salinity prevention to create fresh water resourece and identify locations on Cat Ba island that can be used these solutions.
Applied results: to finished a practical model in Gia Luan village. Capacity of pratical model is 50.000 m3. During the process of water retention, salinity of water has been smaller than 1g/l, it has varied from 0,3 to 0,6 g/l. |
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results | • These resutls contribute to clarify characteristics of aquifers on Cat Ba island and effect of salt intrusion on these aquifers.
• These results play an important role in creating a new research about exploitation of karst water on coastal regions and islands. Moreover, solutions of salt prevention can be researched and applied for many coastal regions and island in Vietnam where has the same geological structure to Cat Ba island or has different geological structure to Cat Ba island.
• These results contribute significant economic values in steady exploration and exploitation of underground water. These results can improve effect of investment and exploitation of underground water resource on Cat Ba island and coastal regions, islands where be affected by salt intrusion.
• These results can propose significant docments for planning, building and exploration of underground water on Cat Ba island. Besides, it is an important base of land use arrangement on Cat Ba island. |

+ Apply of salinity prevention technologies by creating fresh water resource on Cat Ba island.
- Technological products:
+ Pratical model is located in Gia Luan village, Cat Hai district, Hai Phong city. This model approve the effect of using dam solution on salt prevention to create fresh water resource. On condition of normal water level, the capacity of fresh water is 50.000 m3. The area of reservoir is about 4ha, normal water level is 1,25m, maximum water level is 1,70m.
