Goal and objectives of the project

- To investigate, collect and evaluate the antidengue activity of some plants collected from the North of Vietnam.
- To give a structural data of some antidengue compounds
- To propose some potential plants in the North of Vietnam for the development of antidengue drug. 

Main results
- Scientific research results:
+ Collected, identified and provided a data set (including voucher specimens, distribution, botanical characteristic) of 14 plants collected in some province from the North of Vietnam. Evaluated the antidengue activity of 19 extracts producing from different parts of 14 plants. The four most active plant extracts were identified from Elaeagnus latifolia, Carica papaya, Euphorbia hirta and Cordyline fruticosa. Extracted 12 sub-fractions from the four most potential plants and investigated the antidengue activity of these extracts. The n-hexan sub-fraction from Carica papaya, ethyl acetate subfractions from Elaeagnus latifolia, Euphorbia hirta and Cordyline fruticosa were the the most active one.
  + Isolated 9 compounds from Elaeagnus latifolia, 9 compounds from Carica papaya and 8 compounds from Euphorbia hirta, of which 15 compounds were isolated for the first time from the above species. 
+ Evaluated antidengue activity of 10 compounds. Compound N3 (2-O-trans-p-coumaroyl alphitolic acid)  isolated from Elaeagnus latifolia was the most active compounds against three serotypes DENV virus. Theoretical calculation of 9 compounds isolated from Elaeagnus latifolia by molecular docking, QSARIS and ADMET approaches. Compounds N6, N7, N9 and N3 showed the best static inhibitability (docking score) with protein 3L6P of virus dengue. Compound N4-N7 are the promissing candidates for bio-compatible and pharma-suitable properties. 
+ Proposed the possibility for exploitation and utilization of the four most active plants for developing antidengue drugs.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- The antidengue activity of 14 plants collected in the north of Vietnam were evaluated for the first time.
- The sub-fractions from Elaeagnus latifolia, Carica papaya, Euphorbia hirta and Cordyline fruticosa were evaluated antidengue activity against four serotype DENV1-4 virus for the first time.
- 15 compounds were isolated for the first time from Elaeagnus latifolia and Carica papaya.
- 10 compounds isolated from the above plants were investigated antidengue activity against four serotypes DENV1-4 virus for the first time
- 9 compounds isolated from Elaeagnus latifolia were theoretically calculated the static inhibitability with protein 3L6P and 3LKW of Dengue virus for the first time

Recommendations

Further study on the process to produce the product in large scale,  containing rich of antidengue active components from Elaeagnus latifolia, Carica papaya and  Euphorbia hirta and Cordyline fruticosa. Long term-programming to plant the above plants in local areas to provide pharmaceutical materials for drug development against dengue diseases.
