Goal and objectives of the project

Unraveling the impact of plate and plume tectonics on the formation of mantle and crust magmatic activity and their geochemical features on the formation of Cu-Ni-PGE, Fe-Ti-V magmatic and hydrothermal Au-Cu-Mo-W and Li deposits, including porphyry type.

Main results

Research:
- A new collection of samples from Permian - Triassic magma formations along the Truong Son fold belt has been obtained for research on magmatism and metallogeny related to the geological history of Indochina block in the Late Paleozoic - Early Mesozoic. This is one of the scientific issues of great interest to geologists at home and abroad.
- Contributing to the accuracy of formation age of mafic - ultramafic intrusions in Song Hien and Lo Gam zones: mainly in the range of 250-246 Ma. This is an important basis for building different magma - tectonic and metallogenic models. In addition, new studies on inclusion and trace elements in zircon allow to distinguish zircon types in mafic - ultramafic intrusions in the Cao Bang Complex, determine the temperature of magma formation and zircon genesis in the rocks.
- Two types of Permian - Triassic basalt in the Song Hien zone have been established, namely N-MORB and E-MORB types with different origins from lithosphere mantle melting at spinel lherzolite level. Evaluation of the role of crustal contamination in the formation of volcanic series - mafic – ultramafic plutons in Song Hien zone, in which the degree of contamination increases from N-MORB basalt type > E-MORB basalt type - mafic – ultramafic plutons.
- Determining the formation of monzogabbro in the south Truong Son belt and the Kon Tum block related to the lithosphere expansion during the period 240-230 Ma.
- Initial results using the RFA-synchrotron analysis for mafic - ultramafic and medium - acidic igneous rocks show that there are prospects for application in the study of regional geochemical characteristics and mineral prospecting.
Aplication: The research results of the project can be used for different purposes: large-scale geological survey, investigation and prospecting for minerals; The high-quality data can be used in thematic studies of petrology and metallogeny in areas affected by subduction and plume mantle activities.
Education and training: Support 03 PhD students (samples, analysis results). The PhD students directly participate in the implementation of the project.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

Provide new scientific data on magmatic petrology, geodynamic and metallogenic interpretation of the Permian - Triassic period of geological structures in the Vietnam, namely the northeast region, the Truong Son fold belt. and the Kon Tum geoblock.
