Goal and objectives of the project

To develop a method to fabricate TiO2-sodium titanate-carbon quantum dots composites for photocatalytic reduction of CO2 into renewable fuels

Main results

Theoretical results:
- The project was successful to synthesize solutions of carbon quantum dots (CQD) at different time intervals of 4h, 6h and 8h having an ability to absorb visible light.
- The project was successful to synthesize a TiO2-titanate composite by modifying titania precursor with EDTA at different ratios of [precursor]:[EDTA] via a sol-gel and heat treatment method.
- The project was successful to synthesize TiO2-titanate-CQD composite by mixing the TiO2-titanate composite with different volumes of CQD. The obtained materials did not change their appearance.
- The XRD, FTIR, SEM… results showed that the synthesized materials had their properties, composition and structures meet the given requirements.
- The project was successful to set up a electrochemical system involving three electrodes: Pt auxiliary electrode, Ag/AgCl reference electrode and working electrode made of synthesized materials.
- The project was successful to evaluate the photoactivity of the synthesized materials by using a linear sweep voltammetry and a time-current plot.
- The project was successful to propose a photocatalytic checking system.
Applied results: the obtained composites have a potential to be used as photocatalysts for environmental applications.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

TiO2-titanate-CQD composite by mixing the TiO2-titanate composites were synthesized for the first time via a sol-gel and heat treatment method. The obtained results will provide a fundemental knowledge for the synthesis of other titanium-based material systems. The product obtained from the project is a scientific and practical reference for other studies.
