Goal and objectives of the project

There are two main goals for this project. Firstly, a completed fabrication system for microfluidic channels in typical laboratory in Vietnam was obtained with reasonable cost, simple and high quality microfluidics. The second one is using microfluidic system to investigate several major conditions for dehydration process of protein solution which includes: time, initial diameter of droplet and initial concentration of protein, the saturation ratio of water in surrounding medium. Consequently, the hydration and osmotic pressure as a function of volume fraction were determined and presented. Moreover, simulation methods were studied and applied to predict the outcomes and to improve the control of dehydration.

Main results

Theoretical results:
The project proposed a novel method which using microfluidic system to investigate the dehydration process of protein solution. This method is based on the solvent exchange principle across the interface of droplets. The equation of state of Lysozyme solution was obtained successfully which presented a good agreement to theoretical Carnahan-Starling calculation and experimental data from other previous publications.
Applied results:
Microfluidic fabrication and applications of its will be able to apply to many research field in Vietnam.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

The novelty of this project is applying the microfluidic system will bring several advantages as high throughput in short time, loss of materials is reduced as well as the cost for each experiments.
