Project's information
| Project's title | Molecular genotypic analysis of porcine circovirus (PCV) circulating in Vietnam |
| Project’s code | VAST02.02/19-20 |
| Research hosting institution | Institute of Biotechnology |
| Project leader’s name | Dr. Doan Thi Thanh Huong |
| Project duration | 01/01/2019 - 31/12/2021 |
| Project’s budget | 600 million VND |
| Classify | Excellent |
| Goal and objectives of the project | Whole genome decoding of porcine circovirus causing stunting syndrome in piglets in Vietnam. |
| Main results | Theoretical results: -The study has received 30 positive PCV2 samples in 12 provinces and cities of Vietnam. The nucleotide sequence and phylogenetic analyses of porcine circovirus ORF2 (Cap protein) from 17 virulent strains and 4 commercial vaccine strains then were conducted. The analyses revealed that all of PCV samples in Vietnam are of type 2, of which the most common is the PCV2d (64.7%), followed by the PCV2b (29.4%), only one specimen PCV2a (5.9%) was collected. The vaccine strains currently used in Vietnam belong to the PCV2h (which also known as recombinant cluster). These strains were deposited in GenBank. |
| Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results | - To be the first publish of PCV2d genotype in Northern Vietnam. |
| Products of the project | - Scientific papers in referred journals (list): 01 manuscript submitted to Archive of Virology: Molecular genotypic analyses of porcine circovirus type 2 revealed the predominance of PCV2d in Vietnam (2018–2020) and the association between PCV2h, the recombinant forms, and Vietnamese vaccines. |
