Project's title Development of rapid detection of various toxins in Vietnam's export agricultural production by Raman spectroscopy
Project’s code TĐNDTP.04/19-21
Research hosting institution Institute of Chemistry
Project leader’s name Ph.D. Nguyen Thanh Duong
Project duration 01/01/2019 - 31/12/2021
Project’s budget 4,800 million VND
Classify Excellent
Goal and objectives of the project

- Develop a method of applying modern analysis techniques by Raman spectroscopy for rapid detection of various toxins in Vietnam's agricultural products to meet technical and quality requirements for exporting.
- Compare the rapid method for detection of toxins by Raman spectroscopy and traditional methods. Then, determine the quality, accuracy and reliability of the new method.
- Minimize time and costs for households, import and export companies, functional agencies as well as consumers in determining the quality of products.

Main results

- Identified a number of pesticides, growth regulators, growth inhibitors and molds in Vietnam's export agricultural products by Raman spectroscopy. The topic has built the Raman spectral data set of some toxins in agricultural products.
- Developed the process of manufacturing the surface – enhanced Raman spectroscopy and applied in food analysis
- Successfully fabricated the surface – enhanced Raman spectroscopy
- Successfully applied the Raman spectroscopy in detection of some toxins in Vietnam's export agricultural products such as identifying permethrin, identifying paraquat in watermelon, identifying difenoconazole in potatoes and simultaneously identifying imidacloprid, acephate and carbaryl in mango.
Training: 01 Master

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

The study successfully fabricated the surface – enhanced Raman spectroscopy to amplify the signal of Raman spectroscopy. The achieved results showed that the surface – enhanced Raman spectroscopy had high stability, the enhancement factor of 4.7 x 107, which were within allowable limits according to the MRLs prescribed in Vietnam and some other countries.
