Goal and objectives of the project

Study stability of elastic rings subject to bending and twisting.

Main results

- Theoretical results: Analyze stability of elastic rings made from chiral filaments subject to twisting and bending due to fluild films; Determine critical twisting moment and surface tension of fluid film at which the flat circular configuration of elastic rings loses stability; Determine buckled shapes of elastic rings after instability occurs.
- Applied results: The project results could be used to understand kink instability of DNA rings.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results Analyze influence of twist-bend coupling on stability of elastic rings subject to bending and twisting.
