Goal and objectives of the project

The objectives of the project are to successfully synthesize a complex of rutin, quercetin with cyclodextrin of nano size, with a higher solubility than that of pure rutin and quercetin; Improve an efficiency of complexation and evaluate the interaction of serum albumin with quercetin and complex.

Main results

The complexes [Rut-βCD] and [Quer-HPβCD] were successfully synthesized with the maximum yield value of over 70%. The results show that there is an interaction between a part of the guest molecule (rutin, quercetin) with the central hole of the cyclodextrin molecule; The obtained materials have nano-sized diameters in the range of 50-60 nm. Nanocomplexation with cyclodextrin improved the solubility and antioxidant activity of the drugs. The complexation reaction takes place spontaneously in water or a water- absolute alcohol mixture. The stability of the complexes decreased slightly with increasing ethanol concentration in the solution, the reaction was exothermic and controlled by enthalpy. HPβCD had no effect on the ability of Quer to interact in a complex with albumin in solution.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

The complexes [Rut-βCD] and [Quer-HPβCD] were successfully synthesized with the maximum yield value of over 70% and nano-sized diameters less than 100 nm; the B-terminal of rutin is inserted into the small-sized empty cavity of the macrocycl; HPβCD had no effect on the ability of Quer to interact in a complex with albumin in solution.

The experimental data obtained in this project can be applied to predict thermodynamic parameters of complexation reactions between bioactive flavonoid molecules with cyclodextrins in mixed as water-organic solvents for the preparation and development of cyclodextrin-based pharmaceutical products, using solvents as a controll factor of reactions.
This project is the first bilateral project of the Institute of Tropical Technology with Russian partners after many years of hiatus. As a results, the research team together with partner‘s scientists have published 02 SCIE papers, 01 Scopus paper and trained 01 master. We look forward to the support of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology to continue this cooperation.
