Project's title Studying and identifying the regime of accretion processes and proposing the solutions to stablize the esturay of Lach Bang, Thanh Hoa province for the development of marine-based economy
Project’s code VAST.06.06/19-20
Research hosting institution Institute of Geography
Project leader’s name Nguyen Thai Son
Project duration 01/01/2019 - 25/11/2020
Project’s budget 600 million VND
Classify Excellent
Goal and objectives of the project

- Identifying the causes, regime and main factors affected the accretion processes in the estuary of Lach Bang.
- Proposing scientific and technological solutions to prevent and overcome the accretion of Lach Bang estuary for socio-economic development.

Main results

Theoretical results: The results of the project contribute into the research methodology on dynamic problems for the tropical monsoon estuaries in the world. Importantly, the issues of accreted esturary, shoreline changes and scientific background in the prevention of sedimentation for tropical estuary channels (strong seasonal variation) are fully interpreted.
Applied results:
- Reduction of the mass of dredging volume for enterance channels. The channel is stable and active, allowing large vessels to safely enter and exit the estuary.
- As a reference document for reviewing, supplementing and implementing the plans for constructions in service of socio economic development in the context of climate change.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- Quantitative overall of causes, regimes of accretion-erosion processes in the estuary of Lach Bang, Thanh Hoa province is interprettly studied and evaluated using the advanced methods, techonologies that have been widely applied by scientists in national and international.
- Research and application of advanced technologies for simulating and calculating the morphological changes,  forecasting the trend of changes in estuaries taking into account the factors of climate change and sea level rise. On that basic, proposinig scientific and technological solutions to stabilize the estuaries and protect the coastline. These scientific solutions are studied and calculated in detail based on the current and latest standards released in Vietnam.
