Goal and objectives of the project

- To clarify the fluorine pollution status in groundwater in Khanh Hoa province;
- To assess the impact of fluorine pollution in groundwater on local communities health and propose solutions for mitigation.

Main results

In terms of Science , the project has been achieved the following main results after two years of implementation:
- Synthesized and evaluated hydrogeological conditions and groundwater resources in Khanh Hoa province;
- Assessed the present status of fluorine pollution in groundwater with different levels (From polluted level (1mg/l < Flo < 3mg/l) to high polluted level (Flo> 6mg/l) for 04 aquifers in Khanh Hoa province. Established a map of Fluorine pollution in groundwater in Khanh Hoa province, scale 1:200,000. Established fluorine pollution zoning maps in groundwater for Van Ninh, Dien Khanh, Khanh Vinh districts, Ninh Hoa town, and Cam Ranh city, scale 1: 50,000;
- Investigated and evaluated the effects of fluorine pollution on the people’s health in Khanh Hoa province. People who use groundwater with high fluorine concentration have suffered from dental diseases such as yellow teeth and black teeth. The highest rate of people who suffering from severe dental diseases in the province living in Ninh Hoa town;
- Proposed solutions on rational use of water sources and fluorine treatment model using nanometer-sized CeO2 materials based activated carbon in household-scale.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- Investigated and evaluated the current status of fluorine pollution in groundwater in  Khanh Hoa province.
- Investigated and evaluated the impact of fluorine pollution on the health of local communities. Proposed solutions to mitigate the impacts of fluorine pollution in groundwater on the health of local communites. Two main groups of solutions are including rational use of water sources and fluorine treatment model using nanometer-sized CeO2 materials based  activated carbon in household-scale.
