Goal and objectives of the project

Successful fabrication of biomaterials based on modified fibril fish scale collagen, ginsenoside Rb1 (from Panax notoginseng) and yellow tea polyphenols for hemostasis and wound healing.

Main results

- Theoretical results:
Successful extraction of fish scale collagen by biochemical method using a suitable content of pepsin enzyme of 2 wt.%. The collagen is type I with an estimate molecular weight of 116 kDa.
Successful modification of the collagen by physical method (using UV irradiation) and chemical method (using crosslinking agents including glutaraldehyde, glucose, riboflavin). The chemical method prefers for modification of collagen based materials for hemostasis. The suitable ratio of collagen/glutaraldehyde is 100/0.2 (w/w).
Successful fabrication of biomaterials based on modified fibril fish scale collagen, ginsenoside Rb1 (from Panax notoginseng) and yellow tea polyphenols by solution and 3D printing methods. The 3D printing method prefers for fabrication of collagen based materials for hemostasis. The suitable ratio of collagen/glutaraldehyde/ginsenoside Rb1/polyphenols is 100/0.2/1/1 (w/w/w/w). The obtained biomaterials have uiniform structure. The components in them could adhese and interact well to each other. The collagen based biomaterial has anti-fungi ability with the inhibition to bacteria such as S.aureus and P. Aeruginosa, anti-inflammatory (IC50 = 64,40 µg/mL).
In-vivo test on mice for hemostasis and wound healing ability showed that the collagen based biomaterial in this project had good hemostasis and wound healing. The average time to hemostate of the collagen based biomaterial was 104 ± 16.7 seconds, lower than that of normal urgo sheets.

- Applied results: The biomaterials based on modified fibril fish scale collagen, ginsenoside Rb1 (from Panax notoginseng) and yellow tea polyphenols can be applied in biomedicine as hemostatic agents.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results
