Goal and objectives of the project

Overall objectives: Building a scientific basis for the application of remote sensing technology and GIS to build a database of soil and engineering soil resources for sustainable socio-economic development planning, pilot application in Thua Thien Hue province.
Detail goal:
+ Researching methods and procedures for applying remote sensing and GIS to build a database of soil and engineering soil resources in the sustainable socio-economic development planning.
+ Applying the above method and process for Thua Thien Hue province with the aim of developing into a central cities in the direction of "Cultural heritage, ecology, landscape, environment-friendly".

Main results

Sciencetific:
• Developing a process to apply remote sensing and GIS to build a database of soil and engineering soil resources for sustainable socio-economic development planning;
• Completed 5 main scientific contents including 36 thematic task reports;
• Building a soil database, a engineering soil resources database and assessment of development of agro-forestry and industrial urban areas database in Thua Thien Hue province;
• General sciencetific and summary reports.
Training and publication:    
• Training 03 bachelors, 04 masters and supporting training 03 doctors;
• Published 5 articles, including 01 international article and 04 domestic articles;
• Published 01 specialists book.   

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- The project has developed a process for applying remote sensing and GIS to build a database of soil and engineering soil resources for sustainable socio-economic development planning;
- For the first time building a GIS database on soil in Thua Thien Hue province
- For the first time researched and built a GIS database on engineering soil resources in Thua Thien Hue province.
- Integrate the database of soil and engineering soil resources into the spatial portal of Thua Thien Hue province;
- Develop and master remote sensing applications in resource management;
- Develop teams of young staff with practical knowledge and solid expertise when participating in the project.

Products of the project

Products (type II), including:
+ Scientific report on application of remote sensing and GIS to build database of soil and engineering soil resources in sustainable socio-economic development planning.
+ Map dataset on soil and engineering soil resources at 1:50.000 scale for the whole province of Thua Thien Hue and each district level or equivalent.
+ GIS database on agro-forestry development planning and spatial organization of industrial urban areas in Thua Thien Hue province.
+ Report on methods and procedures for applying remote sensing and GIS to build database of soil and engineering soil resources in sustainable socio-economic development planning.
