Goal and objectives of the project

- General goals:
1. To have a collection of samples of about 90% of discovered mineral resources (metals, non-metals, energy ...) for exhibit and research that meets the Vietnam National Museum of Nature standards.
2. Improve the research capscity of project implementation institute and understanding of nature for community
- Specifically goal:
Build a overall complete and typical collection samples of mineral resources (the mainland part) of Vietnam for exhibit and research at the Vietnam Museum of Nature.

Main results

Specimen and sample collections:
Collected sample collection includes 1553 specimens, including 321 exhibitive specimens and 1232 research specimens.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- Built a collection of samples of representative solid mineral resources of Vietnam mainland from 94 sites with a total of 1468 specimens, including 306 exhibitive and 1162 research specimens. Although not fully completed, the sample collection collected represents most of the typical mineral resources of our country. A number of specimens, wich project has collected, probably almost unique, for various reasons that future collection would be difficult if not impossible.
- Contributing to the detailed study and identification of a new type of supergene Ni mineral resources newly discovered in our country, especially the type of garnierite group Ni ore. Studies were carried out in ultramafic masses in Cao Bang and Nui Nua (Thanh Hoa) areas

Products of the project

- Collected 306/279 specimens for exhibition in comparison with the plan approved in 2020
- Collected 1162 /1078 specimens for scientific research in comparison with the plan approved in 2020
- Publications:
1. Pham Thanh Dang, Pham Tich Xuan, Nguyen Van Pho, 2020. “Garnierite” in weathering crust of ultramafic blocks from Cao Bang area, north Viet Nam. Vietnam Journal of Earht Sciences, 42(2), 130-140.

The sample collection includes a total of 1468 specimens, including 306 exhibitive and 1162 research specimens. Among them, the metal ore group includes 141 exhibitive and 525 research specimens; non-metal group includes 147 exhibitive and 567 research specimens; solid fuel group includes 15 exhibitive and 58 research specimens; radioactive group includes 3 exhibitive and 12 research specimens. All samples are being preserved and kept at the Institute of Geological Sciences, VAST.

Recommendations

- Due to the change in funding progress, part of the field survey and sample collection have not been performed, the analysis and results interpretation, sample inspection and documentation have almost not been implemented. We suggest the project to be continued to perform the next stage to complete the approved project
- Collection of remaining samples and newly discovered samples should be conducted immediately because according to practical experience, if there is a delay, some samples will no longer be able to collect.
