Project's information

Project's title Studying, selecting, and adapting a Vietnam soil classification system for identifying and classifying soils and soil monoliths in Vietnam National Museum of Nature
Project’s code BSTMV.07/19-21
Research hosting institution Vietnam National Museum of Nature
Project leader’s name PhD. Nguyen Thanh Tuan
Project duration 01/01/2019 - 31/12/2021
Project’s budget 2,600 million VND
Classify Excellent
Goal and objectives of the project

- Select and adapt the suitable Vietnam soil classification system, developing a procedure for identifying soils and soil monoliths in Vietnam National Museum of Nature;
- Identify some newly collected soil monoliths and some ones collected and stored in Soils and Fertilizers Research Institute based on the above developed procedure.

Main results

Theoretical results:
+ 01 The Vietnam soil classification system (VSCS) which is rational for identifying and classifying soils and soil monoliths in Vietnam National Museum of Nature;
+ 01 The procedure for identifying soils and soil monoliths in Vietnam National Museum System of Nature (including available forms for identifying some basic soil properties based on the VSCS in the field and in the lab);
+ 01 Software for supporting indentification and classification of soil monoliths in VNMN (called ICSM);
+ 07 articles published in national journals and workshops (3 articles published in journals, 01 article published in VAST1’s journal - reviewed, 3 publised in workshops with ISBN index);
Applied results:
+ 05 soil monoliths with full profiles for exhibitation.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

The results contributed to finalize the VSCS. This system has been applied for VNMN, however it is hopefully that it will be an important progress to officialize as one of offical VSCSs. Along with the VSCS, the identifying procedure, available forms and the software are novel contribution for soil survey and classification in Vietnam.

- Technological products (describe in details: technical characteristics, place): 05 soil monoliths with full  profiles for exhibitation.
- Other products (if applicable): 01 Software for supporting indentification and classification of soil monoliths in VNMN

Research area

Vietnam National Museum of Nature, other museums related to storation, exhibitation of soil monoliths, academic disciplines and institutions concerning soil survey and classification.

Recommendations

After the project would be finished and sucessfully defened, VNMN should be issued a document to request projects on collecting soil monoliths to identify and classify the soil monoliths according to the VSCS. With respect to the available soil monoliths, it is necessary to identify again their names based on the VSCS. It makes sure the comprehensiveness of soil monolith collections in the museum. It is also a good way to validate more the system.
