Goal and objectives of the project

- General objective: Research and application of Lidar and remote sensing technology in environmental monitoring in Hanoi and Da Nang city.
- Detail goal:
• Research and application of remote sensing and lidar technology in air quality monitoring;
• Building an information system for management and environmental monitoring using lidar, remote sensing and monitoring data;
• Proposing the solution in order to control and overcome air pollution in Hanoi city and Da Nang city.

Main results

- Theorerical results:
+ Built the land cover maps (scale 1: 25 000) for Da Nang and Hanoi cities by VNREDSat-1 high-resolution remote sensing image data to identify sources of air pollution.
+ Determine the aerosol optical thickness of the atmosphere in Hanoi and Da Nang using MODIS remote sensing images and Lidar spectroscopy, 0.167 and 0.1497 respectively.
+ Built the algorithms for air pollution parameters: In Hanoi, the results obtained are quite good with the correlation value of R2 for PM2.5 is 0.84, for PM10 is 0.87, for TSP is 0.89, NO is 0.93, NO2 is 0.84 and NOx is 0.93. In Da Nang, the results are similar with the correlation value of R2 for PM2.5 is 0.79, for PM10 is 0.81, for TSP is 0.79; for NO is 0.81, for NO is 0.78 and NOx is 0.86.
+ Developed a near-real-time air quality monitoring system based on an open source geographic information system (WebGIS) for Hanoi and Da Nang city.
 + The process of air quality monitoring by remote sensing and lidar has been proposed. This process can extract daily air quality results continuously and monitor over a large area over a long period to understand trends in air quality.
- Applied results: Technological products of the project are applied in Hanoi and Da Nang cities.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

The results of the project will be a useful tool for environmental management agencies in general, and the atmospheric environment in particular in Hanoi and Da Nang, as a basis for replication to other cities in the country.
