Project's information

Project's title Research on applying biological and chemical technologies on pre-treatment and recover Au from sulfide-Au ores and Au-bearing tin-(tungsten) and antimony ores in order to enhance economical benefit and protect mineral resources and environment in mineral explorations in Central Highland
Project’s code TN18/C11
Research hosting institution Institute of Geological Sciences
Project leader’s name Dr. Pham Ngoc Can
Project duration 01/07/2018 - 31/03/2021
Project’s budget 8,500 millio VND
Classify Pass
Goal and objectives of the project

- Establish the pilot scale technological procedures to pre-treatment sulfide-Au ores, Au-bearing Sn-(W) and Sb ores using in situ isolated bacteria and and recover Au from pre-treated ores;
- Propose the biotechnological and chemical solutions on mineral resources exploration and processing in Central Highland in order to enhance economical benefit and prevent environmental polutions.

Main results

- Elucidate the mineralogical characteristics and mode of occurrences of Au in the 3 types of Au mineralization: sulfide-Au, Au-bearing Sn-(W) and Sb;
- Isolated 99 bacteria from collected samples from Central Highland. Classify, select and test 03 bacteria on pre-treatment sulfide ores;
- Establish 02 pilot scale technological procedures on pre-treatment sulfide-Au ore;
- Establish chemical procedure on recover and refine Au from bacterial pre-treated ores.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

Biological is the advance and green technology that is applying in various areas. It is the first time, in situ bacteria was isolated and applying to pre-treatment Au-bearing sulfide ores. The promised results open the new orientation on mineral explorations. Since, biotechnology reduces operating cost, Au from low-grade ores and mining dump would be economically and environmentally proceeded and recovered. This technology could be expanded to recover others useful metals in further study.
