Goal and objectives of the project

- Determination of chemical composition of polysaccharide extracted from pumpkin
- Pumbkin polysaccharide  for anti-diabetic treatment

Main results

Theoretical results:
- A extraction process of polysaccharide from pumpkin has been established (scale of 2 kg of dried material/batch
- Pumpkin polysaccharide was evaluated for anti-diabetic activity both in vivo and in vitro assay
- Chemical compostion and structure of 02 pumpkin polysaccharides were determined
- The obtained results on structure and anti-diabetic activity of pumpkin polysaccharide can be contributed to the database of bioactive compound from natural resources.
Applied results:
- Pumpkin polysaccharide is a natural product, which can be extracted by a simple method. In addition, it has a promising effect on diabetes treatments by decreasing blood glucose level, inhibiting α-glucosidase and α-amylase activities and improving pancreas tissue damage. Therefore, it can be a safe and good candidate to be used as an anti-diabetic agent
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results:
- Pectin and dextran structural forms of pumpkin polysaccharides have been identified.
- Pumpkin polysaccharide exhibits significal anti-diabetic activity both in vivo and in vitro assay
