Goal and objectives of the project

- Assessing the relationship between landscape differentiation and the distribution of heavy metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Pb and Zn) in Hai Hau District, Nam Dinh Province
- Proposing solutions to reduce heavy metal pollution in the study area's agricultural land.

Main results

- Theoretical results:
+ Create a map of landscape ecology in the Hai Hau district at a scale of 1/25,000, with 37 types of landscapes that reflect the differentiation of reality the landscape units with the formed factors are the impact of manmade activities in the research area
+ Analyzed 71 soil samples to determine the origin and accumulated content of seven common heavy metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Pb, and Zn) based on landscape ecological units. The results show that the accumulation of heavy metals is primarily of man-made origin, and the accumulated concentrations of these metals are all within the allowable thresholds according to Vietnam Standards; however, the concentration of metals As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Pb, and Zn was higher in all types of rice landscapes compared to other types.
+ There are differences based on landscape differentiation, with wet rice landscapes having a higher metal content of As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Pb, and Zn than other crops and fruits. The mechanical components of the soil influence the distribution of As, Cr, and Pb, whereas the total carbon content influences the distribution of As, Cr, and Pb. The pH of the soil does not affect the distribution of heavy metals.
+ Created maps of the distribution of heavy metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Pb, and Zn) in the research area's agricultural land at a scale of 1:25,000, which visually reflects the spatial distribution of heavy metals in the Hai Hau district's agricultural land;
+ Proposed a variety of solutions, most of which were non-structural, biologically possible, and appropriate to local conditions.

- Assessed and clarified the role of human factors as the primary factor in the formation, development, and differentiation of landscape units in Hai Hau district, Nam Dinh province. The different types of landscapes are distinguished by changes in current status and land-use trends both inside and outside the river and sea dyke systems.
- Accessed accumulation of heavy metals, the majority of which are of human origin. The concentrations of these metals are within the allowable limits set by Vietnam Standards, with variations depending on landscape differentiation. Metals such as As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Pb, and Zn were found in higher concentrations in wet rice landscapes than in crops and fruit trees.

- Applied results:
+ The topic's research findings are being used as one of the scientific foundations for the competent authorities of Hai Hau district and Nam Dinh province to build an organic agriculture program in the coming years.
