Goal and objectives of the project

- Obtain at least 80 monoliths profiles according to Vietnam's soil classification system, which was updated on the map of the Northeast region (1/1.000.000 in scale), Vietnam, including the Red River Delta.
- For display research
- Improve research capacity and community understanding.

Main results

- About sample collection products:
+ Report: Overview of the construction of soil specimens and the process of collecting and processing soil samples in the world and in Vietnam.
+ Data Analysis of physical and chemical components of the collected specimens.
+ 12 specimens of monolithic land for display, 144 research specimens are preserved according to regulations.
+ Map of sampling area
+ Database of soil specimen information
- About application:
A collection of soil specimes representing the Northeast and Red River Delta, together with databases of major soil types for research, exchange, sightseeing and awareness raising for people. This valuable resource is essential to protect and improve the efficiency of land resource use in Vietnam. It also contributes to the completion of soil samples for the display, preservation and storage of the system of Vietnamese natural specimens of the system of Vietnam National Museum of Nature.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

+ This project contributes to enrich scientific database on land resources; supplement and complete a comprehensive and integrated approach to solve the raised problems.
+ The topic will directly improve research capacity for scientists of the Institute of Geography, coordinating agencies in the field of collecting, storing and displaying soil specimens.
+ The soil specimens collection in the Northeast and the Red River Delta are valuable documents in researching against soil degradation, desertification and environmental protection. The soil specimes collection is also a geographical indication in tourism and commerce.

Products of the project

+ 12 exhibits (Monolith) according to the approved plan and budget to be provided by the end of 2020.
+ 144 research specimes according to the approved plan and the budget to be provided by the end of 2020.
+ Specimes collection documentation including: description, soil analysis data, activity photo, specimens point map ...
- Specific products (product description, place of storage)
+ The soil specimens collected have been stored, processed, manipulated and preserved at the Museum of Soils and Fertilizers Research Institute. 12 exhibits were dried and processed in accordance with specified standards. The specimens are well preserved and are ready for further work.
+ 144 research specimens are stored in 144 plastic boxes, labeled with decane and named according to regulations
+ The analyzed samples and stored samples are stored in plastic containers with corresponding labels.

Research region

The research results of the project will be transferred to museums in the Vietnam Museum of Nature Systems, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology.

Recommendations

In two years (2019-2020), the project only collect 12 monolithic specimens for display and 144 specimens for research purpose. It is recommended to continue to implement the project to collect Northeast soil specimens to complete project products according to the set target of 80 display specimens and 960 research specimens.
