Goal and objectives of the project

- Identify the number and composition of species of marine microorganisms isolated in some areas of Vietnam.
- Assess the diversity and fluctuations of marine microorganisms in some Vietnamese waters not through culture.
- Develop a collection of marine microorganisms to conserve microbial genetic resources for socio-economic research and development in Vietnam.

Main results

- Theoretical results:
Component II of the Project has surveyed and collected samples in 06 surveys in 02 coastal areas of Vietnam, namely Lang Co - Da Nang and Phu Quoc. The distribution of the number of groups of microorganisms has been determined: aerobic bacteria, anaerobic/ microaerobic bacteria; actinomycetes; mold and yeast in seawater and marine sediment samples (more than 300 samples) collected during 6 field trips. Has isolated: 4562 strains of Aerobic bacteria, 593 strains of Anaerobic/microaerobic bacteria; 89 strains of Actinomycetes; 620 fungal strains and 210 strains of yeast. Except for the Actinobacterial strains reaching <40% of the number compared with the registration, the remaining strains of other groups of microorganisms are 1.5-7 times higher than the registration.
+ There have been data on morphology of: 290 strains of bacteria, 612 strains of mold, 37 strains of Actinomyces for the genus classification of microorganisms.
+ Claccification to species and make a profile of 496 strains of microorganisms, including 354 aerobic bacteria, 31 nitrate reducing bacteria, 34 strains of sulfate reducing bacteria, 37 strains of Actinobacteria, 29 strains of fungi, and 11 strains of yeast strains.
+ Built a data set on the marine prokaryote system of Vietnam in two regions of the Central and Southern regions through the 16S rRNA sequence of 20 DNA - metagenome samples (according to the registration of 06 samples);
+ Building a data set on Vietnam's marine Eukaryote system in two regions of the Central and Southern regions through the order of 11 samples of 18S rRNA and 6 samples of 26S DNA-metagenome (according to the registration of 06 samples of each type);
+ Set up 02 sets of the list of unculture microorganisms including: composition ratio and a list of 38 phyla, 76 classes, 177 orders, 221 families, 260 genera in the Langco – Danang sea and the list of: 43 phyla, 92 classes, 203 orders, 207 families, 381 genera in the Phuquoc sea of two kingdoms of unculture Archaea and Bacteria.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- Providing data on microorganisms through culture and not culturing in Vietnam's marine ecosystem.
