| Main results | Scientific results: + The project has investigated and collected samples of free-living nematodes, aquatic plant parasitic nematodes and other meiofauna in coastal provinces of the 4 main sea regions of Vietnam. Results of morphological and ecological characteristics intergrating with the application of molecular techniques, SEM, ect provided highly reliable and quantified taxonomical data. + The project has investigated and discovered 250 species of marine nematodes, 92 species of parasitic nematodes on mangrove plants and aquatic plants in the sea and 108 other species of Meiofauna. Main results were listed as below: + One monograph was published (about Meiofauna in the coastal area of Vietnam sea): Đỗ Văn Tứ, Takenori Sasaki and Lê Hùng Anh, 2019: “The common tiny mollusk species (Mollussca: Gastropoda) distributed in the coastal area and coastal islands of Vietnam Sea”. Publishing House Natural Science and Technology: 487 pp. ISBN: 978-604-913-941-3. + In total, 415 marine species of free-living marine nematodes, plant parasitic nematodes and other Meiofauna group likes Tiny mollusks, Amphipods and Foraminiphera were described (including drawings, photos, measurements - morphological quantity of each species has been identified, sheet describing in detail morphological characteristics, location and distribution). (i) Parasitic nematodes in marine aquatic plants of Vietnam: 85 species; (ii) Free-living marine nematodes in estuarine ecosystems (ecosystems), mangroves, coastal seas, seaweed and coral reefs (RSH) - 250 species; (iii) Other Meiofauna species, including: 68 species (Amphipoda, Harpacticoida, small snail...) and 40 species of Foraminiphera. + Sets of Standard Specimens have been developed and well preserved to serve research, comparison and international exchange for the following groups: (i) Standard specimens of Free-Lived Marine Nematodes: 2430 specimens; (ii) Standard specimen set of plant parasitic nematodes on mangroves and aquatic plants in Vietnam: 990 specimens; (iii) Standard specimens of crustaceans and foraminifera in Vietnam: 1020 specimens (dry: 435 specimens, wet: 585 specimens). + Developed and well preserved the current state of all collected specimens (fixation with preservation solutions such as FAA, TAF, Formalin...) to serve for future research. Application results: + Initially investigated and studied a large amount of species of free-living marine nematodes and other Meiofauna such as Foraminiphera, Copepoda that have the ability to indicate biological quality of seawater environment and public health. + For the first time in Southeast Asia, a survey was conducted to collect data on the potential occurence of plant parasitic nematodes in seaweeds, sea grasses. The initial results found out the harmful impacts of such nematode species on some seaweeds, seagrasses and on some aquatic plants in the coastal sea of Vietnam. |
| Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results | + The DATA BASE and SEM, ADN results was created (including ecology-biology characteristic, morphometric measurements species locality, distribution and chemical physical enviromental parameters). The species identify consists of all of ecological parameters, its locality, morphological measurements, biological characteristics and place distribution of following groups: (i) Plant parasitic species nematodes on the marine plants and mangroves of Vietnam 92 species; (ii) Free-living marine nematodes in ecosystems like Mangrove, Estuary, Coastal area, Sea grass and Corall – 250 species; (iii) Marine tiny Meiofauna groups like Amphipoda, Harpacticoida, Tiny Mollusks and other Foraminiphera - 80 species. + The Herbariums with highly quality for collecting Nematode speciments (free-living marine nematode species and plant parasitic nematode species); Herbarium for keeping Copepods and other Foraminiphera were built for collecting and changing types animal of the type Holotypes and paratypes species between scientific institutions of Vietnam with foreign academic institutions. + Apart from those, Project had well preserved with high quality all of the collected field materials from every expedition during project times (after fixing by FAA, TAF, Formalin...), thereby making the raw material usable later for every researching goal is needed. + Application: + Firstly Project was started to investigate and study some free-living marine nematode species, Foraminiphera which potentially for using in assessment biological water quality watershed and for the community health. + Firstly in the Southern East Asia, Project was investigated potentially the plant parasitic nematode species which could be damaged on the marine water plants and on the sea grass in a coastal ecosystem such as mangroves and Estuaries. |
