Goal and objectives of the project

Preparation of nanocomposite materials for antibacterial effect in water treatment including TiO2 nanoparticles and Fe3O4 on graphene oxide.

Main results

-    Theoretical results:

  • Successfully synthesized and purified graphene oxide sheets, with detailed physical and chemical characterization
  • Successfully synthesized the core-shell Fe3O4@TiO2 materials following a two-step process: (1) Synthesis of Fe3O4 nanoparticles from highly saturated Fe ions solutions and (2) wrapping these nanoparticles with TiO2. The core-shell material was physically and chemically investigated
  • Investigated the antibacterial activity of Fe3O4@TiO2 core-shell material against Escherichia coli
  • Successfully synthesized GO-TiO2 nanocomposite: assemblage of TiO2 nanoparticles on GO sheets, with GO:TiO2 ratio and calcination temperature varied. All material samples were characterized physically and chemically
  • Investigated the photocatalytic and antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli of the GO-TiO2 nanocomposites
  • Investigated the combination of Fe3O4@TiO2 material and GO sheets at three different component proportions: GO-Fe3O4-TiO2 211; 111; and 212. All nanocomposite products were characterized physically and chemically
  • Investigated the photocatalytic and antibacterial activities against Escherichia coli of GO-Fe3O4-TiO2 nanocomposites
  • Making a simple filter membrane from GO-Fe3O4-TiO2 nanocomposites and investigated its antibacterial activity
Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

Proposition of a collectible and easy-to-synthesize material exhibiting good photocatalytic and antibacterial activities for contaminants elimination and water purification
