Goal and objectives of the project

−    To improve technological procedure for manufacture and processing of UV-cured high performance wood coatings.
−    To cooperate with joined company to realize pilot production of wood floorboards coated by project’s vanishes with suitable scale in production line to evaluate and prove quality, efficiency, reliability and application possibility of the products.

Main results

-    Theoretical results:
+ The influence of chemical nature and content of 04 resins (epoxidiacrylate (EDA), epoxidimethacrylate (EDMA), urethane diacrylate (UDA), epoxy resin modified by soya-bean oil (ESO), 02 monomers (hexanediol diacrylate (HDDA), trimethylolpropane triacrylate (TMPTA), 02 photoinitiators (I.184 and I.819), 03 fillers (CaCO3, talc, BaSO4) on the crosslinking and properties of UV-cured coatings have been determined. Based on the obtained results the systems with the constituents weight ratio EDA/HDDA/I.184/talc = 60/40/3/20 and EDA/HDDA/I.184/ CaCO3 = 60/40/3/20 were chosen to be UV-curable premier varnishes; EDA/HDDA/I.184/talc = 50/50/3/20 and EDA/HDDA/I.184 = 50/50/3 were selected to be the UV-curable top varnishes for wood floorboards, technical properties of which were not inferior and cheaper than those imported.
+ A part of above mentioned results was presented in 01 paper published in Vietnam Journal of Science and Technology, 01 paper accepted to be published in Journal of Chemistry of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and 01 paper submitted to Journal of Science and Technology of technical universities, 01 useful solution accepted to be lawful application by Decision No 51360/QĐ-SHTT of 25/6/2019 of the head of Bureau of the right to intellectual property.

-    Applied results:
+ 1050 kg of project’s varnishes were used and assessed by Giap Bat Company for forest products to possess the quality which was not inferior than imported varnishes.
+ 2800 m2 of wood floorboards coated by above mentioned project’s varnishes in production conditions of Giap Bat Company for forest products were evaluated to have the quality which was not inferior than those imported and accepted by customers.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

−    The theoretical results of the project presented above can not be found in any publication and attributed to deeper understand reaction as well as the relationship between chemical nature, content of investigated compounds and reaction, properties of UV-cured products which are the base for selection of UV-curable formulations for wood.
−    There is still no information about application of UV-curable varnishes of other collectives and persons like the project’s application mentioned above.

Recommendations

In order to further improve concurrence possibility of the project’s vanishes it is necessary to realize the following additional contents for enhancement of performance, efficiency and variety of the products:
+ Further study of the influence of filler, vegetable oils and their derivatives as well as systematically research of effects of additives on reaction and properties of UV-cured wood varnishes to select best formulations for concrete demands of the practice.
+ Further realization of pilot production and application of selected UV-curable wood varnishes in production conditions by various processing methods.
So, collective of the project’s participants would suggest the Council and various managerial levels to consider and support so that a project for pilot production and testing of state level “Improve manufacture procedure of UV-curable wood varnishes” could be submitted and realized soon to further augment the concurrence possibility of the products.
