Goal and objectives of the project

Selecting and breeding native wild boar, then improving the breeding technology of commercial hybrid wild boar. Establishment of breeding farm and branding Tay Nguyen wild boar from Central Highlands. In vitro and in vivo conservation of wild boar genetic resources. Quality improvement of the beef cattle in several border regions of Dak Nong province for economic development associated with national security. Application of technology of sex-sorting sperm and reproductive hormones to improve the dairy cows, contributing to the development of both the quality and quantity of dairy cows in Lam Dong province.

Main results

Theoretical results: selecting and breeding native wild boar, then improving the breeding technology of commercial hybrid wild boar. This study evaluated the characteristics in the growth and development of wild boars, also estimated the biological characteristics of gametes and somatic cells of wild boars. The relationship between meat quality and polymorphism of the quality-related genes in porcine (GRHM, MC4R, C8) and bovine (Leptin, DGAT1, SCD1) has been evaluated, helping to select the high quality individuals.
- Applied results: This study established the farm model of 30 native wild boars and more than 100 hybrid wild boars for commercialization (annually gives birth to over 850), and setting up the food store of products in Dak Nong. Twenty native boars were released back to the forest with tracking chips. We have set up the farm model of hybrid beef cattle at border regions in the Border Guard Command of Dak Nong province with a total of 60 cows. In addition, this project also conducted artificial insemination for cows in Gia Nghia city and Dak Mil district, the total number of artificially inseminated cows was 549.

 

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

Determination of the growth and development of the wild boar and preservation of gametes and somatic cells of the Tay Nguyen native wild boar. This study has evaluated the polymorphism of genes related to meat quality of crossbred pigs and crossbred cows, helping to select individuals with high quality performance.
