Goal and objectives of the project

- Developing a numerical model for effectively simulating the beach morphological change due to waves and currents, which can be applied in coastal engineering projects.
- Strengthening group of junior researchers that can publish the novel scientific results in the international journals.
- Co-operating with national and international scientists for sharing knowledge, experience, data and publishing significant results in the scientific conferences and international journals.

Main results

- Theoretical results: Developed a numerical model for beach morphological change due to waves and currents. Each sub-model has been carefully calibrated and verified against many data sets from laboratories and fields. The obtained results agreed well with measurements. Significant results were published in the scientific article of the Ocean Engineering (SCI). In addition, the obtained results were also published in the scientific national/international workshops and conferences.
- Applied results: The coastal area in the vincinity of Thuan An inlet has been significantly changed, especially after building coastal structures. The numerical model were applied to simulate the beach morphological change in the nearshore of Thuan An beach. The simulation results showed that the model simulate well the beach deposition in the downstream of the groin located in the south of Thuan An inlet.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

- Improved the calculation of the decay and stable coefficients in formulation of wave energy dissipation due to wave breaking.
- Included the modules for calculating the undertow velocity and sediment transport due to undertow.
- Included the modules for calculating the asymmetric wave parameters and sediment transport due to wave asymmetry.
- Simulated the beach morphological change for Thuan An coastal area.
