Goal and objectives of the project

Creating transgenic tomato plants producing recombinant sweet-tasting protein, Miraculin, for food industry and pharmaceutical industry.

Main results

- Theoretical results:
 Codon optimization and artifical synthesis successfully of gene coding miraculin protein for tomatoes.
 Isolating and sequencing successfully E8 promoter from PT18 tomato, HSP18.2 promoter and HSP18.2 terminator from Arabidopsis and accessions in GenBank are KJ561284, KM083119 and KP008108, respectively.
 Designing three transgenic vector constructions containing mir gene, consist of pBI121/35S/mir/NOS, pBI121/E8/mir/NOS and pBI121/pHSP/mir/tHSP.
 Expressing successfully MIR protein in BY-2 tobacco cell, tobacco hair root and PT18 tomato.
- Applied results:
The mir transgenic tomato lines which have high accumulation of recombinant MIR protein are good materials to apply in food and phamaceutical industries.

Novelty and actuality and scientific meaningfulness of the results

This is the first research in Vietnam for the expression of recombinant miraculin protein in plants and being also the first one in the world using tobacco BY-2 cells and hairs root cultural systems in order to the expression and biomass production miraculin protein. Therefore, this project has suggested new applications for making actively materials in industrial production.
